GUNNISON, Colo.  Coming off another hard-fought victory Western Colorado appears to be clicking on all cylinders as they prepare to take on Adams State University (Jan. 21) and Colorado State University Pueblo (Jan. 22).

MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS

  • Western had to battle in their last game against Chadron State (Jan. 16). But, the Mountaineers came away with an impressive 83-80 overtime victory. Grace Kirscher was a force down the stretch tying the game with her second buzzer beater of the season, then scored nine-points in overtime to seal the victory.
  • Kirscher finished the game with a season high 21-points and recorded her second straight 20-point game. Emmery Wagstaff also had a stellar night, recording a season best 19-points.
  • With the win, Western now sits in fifth place (5-3) in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Standings.
  • Currently the Mountaineers have three players - Kirscher, Katie Dalton, Samantha Coleman – scoring in double figures in conference play. Kirscher leads the way averaging 13.9-points (No. 9 RMAC), Dalton is right behind her with 10.9-points per game (No. 21 RMAC), while Coleman is third with 10.6-points (No. 22 RMAC).
  • Western has the seventh ranked offense in the RMAC (64.4-points per game), and ninth ranked defense giving up 63.9-points per game. The Mountaineers shoot 42.7 percent from the field (No. 4 RMAC), 30.8 percent from three (No. 9 RMAC) and 72.9 percent from the free throw line (No. 6 RMAC).
GRIZZLIES HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • Adams State was on a two-game winning streak after defeating Colorado Christian University 77-51 (Jan. 18). However, that streak was snapped on Wednesday (Jann. 19) when they lost 64-58 to MSU Denver – resulting in the Grizzlies being in ninth (4-6) place in the RMAC standings.
  • Kayla Harris is the Grizzlies top scorer in conference play averaging 8.3-points, while Stephanie Ruiz and Angelline Nageak are right behind her scoring 8.2 and 8.1-points.
  • Harris shoots 36 percent from the field, 13.8 percent from three and 68 percent from the free throw line. For Ruiz, she makes 34.6 percent from the field and 36.9 percent from the three (No. 8 RMAC).
  • Nageak is their best shooter making 44.3 percent from the field (No. 5 RMAC), 33.3 percent from three (No. 10 RMAC) and 27.3 percent from the free throw line.
  • As a whole, Adams State has the ninth ranked offense scoring 61.4-points per game and the seventh ranked defense giving up 63 points. They shoot 37 percent from the field (No. 11 RMAC), 30 percent from three (No. 11 RMAC) and 62.1 percent from the free throw line (No. 13 RMAC).
THUNDERWOLVES HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • CSU-Pueblo had their four-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday (Jan. 18) falling 84-74 2OT to MSU Denver. But, bounced back on Wednesday (Jan. 19), defeating Colorado Christian 68-42. With that loss and win, the Thunderwolves now sit in third place (9-2) in the RMAC standings.
  • Alisha Davis, JaNaiya Davis and Jazzy Hughes are the leading scores for CSU-Pueblo, averaging 14.4, 11.5 and 11-points per game. Alisha shoots 42 percent from the field (No. 5 RMAC), 73 percent from the free throw line (No. 16 RMAC) and is a force in the paint blocking 2.1 shots a game (No. 3 RMAC).
  • Similar to Alisha, JaNaiya is a threat on defense averaging 3.2 steals a game (No. 2 RMAC). On Offenese, she shoots 45.7 percent from the field (No. 4 RMAC), 32.4 percent from three and 96.7 percent from the free throw line (No. 1 RMAC).
  • Coming off the bench Hughes shoots 60.8 percent from the field (No. 1 RMAC), 55.6 percent from three and 84 percent from the free throw line (No. 4 RMAC).
  • The Thunderwolves have the sixth ranked offense scoring 66.7-points a game and the best defense giving up 52.9-points. They shoot 39.8 percent from the field (No. 6 RMAC), 29.2 percent from the three (No. 13 RMAC) and 69.6 percent from the free throw line (No. 9 RMAC).
ON THE COURT NEXT
Western will be on the road the next time they take the court on Friday, Jan. 28 traveling to Salt Lake City, Utah to take on Westminster at 5:30 p.m. Following the conclusion of that game, the Mountaineers will travel to Grand Junction to take on the Colorado Mesa at 5 p.m.
